Norwegian renewable energy producer Scatec is set to start construction of solar and battery storage facilities in the Northern Cape Province of South Africa, after reaching financial close. The US$1 billion project, the largest of its kind in Africa and the first sizeable baseload renewable energy project in South Africa, will provide 540 megawatts of solar power capacity and 1.1 gigawatt hours of battery storage capacity.

A consortium led by Trafigura and Mota-Engil has won a concession tender for rail services and logistics support for the Lobito Corridor in Angola, the Central African country’s transport ministry has announced. Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund Temasek and Cremer, a family-owned German multinational company, will establish a factory in Singapore to produce plant-based alternative proteins. Temasek, through its Asia Sustainable Foods Platform (ASF), and Cremer have jointly invested S$6 million (US$4.3 million) in the plant under a joint venture entity, Cremer Sustainable Foods (CSF).
