Citi appoints CIB head, Asia-Pacific
Jan Metzger appointed as head of corporate and investment banking
The Asset 27 Mar 2018

CITI has appointed Jan Metzger as head of Corporate and Investment Banking (CIB), effective June 1 2018, according to an internal memo seen by The Asset.

Metzger is currently the co-head of Global Technology. Metzger joined Citi in 2015 as head of Asia-Pacific TMT from Credit Suisse, where he had been the regional TMT head. During his time in Asia, Metzger has led a number of industry-defining transactions for clients, including Alibaba, Hon Hai, Lenovo and Samsung.

Metzger is replacing Mark Slaughter. After four years of heading CIB for Asia-Pacific, Slaughter has expressed his desire to move back home to be closer to his family. Slaughter will become vice chairman of CIB. In this role, Slaughter will maintain senior client relationships in the region and begin to transition as a senior on important client relationships outside of the region.

Slaughter has been head of CIB for Asia-Pacific since 2014, during which time he rebuilt the senior leadership team and drove a seamless one CIB strategy to deliver the best for Citi’s clients.

Metzger graduated from the University of Cambridge with a Master of Philosophy in Economics and also received a First Class Honours Bachelor of Arts degree (double major in Economics and Computing) from the University of Sussex. Metzger started his career in 1994 as a software engineer, developing voice recognition systems. He began his technology investment banking career in Europe in 2000, before moving to Asia in 2007.
