Michael Marray 31 Jul 2019

Construction work on the 392-kilometre Sukkur-Multan Motorway, an important project within the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), has been completed.

On July 23, the National Highway Authority (NHA) presented a substantial completion certification to the main contractor, China State Construction Engineering Corporation (CSCEC).

NHA M5 General Manager Muhammad Naseem Arif attended the ceremony held in Multan, marking the end of three years of construction work.

Li Ganchun, chief of the M5 project from the CSCEC, said that the M5 will provide an important connection between the north and south, and facilitate social economic development in the region along the motorway.

The motorway, which is known as M5 in Pakistan, is the largest transportation infrastructure project in CPEC. It forms part of the country's Peshawar-Karachi Motorway and was completed on time. Total investment in the project is around US$2.9 billion.

The motorway is expected to open to traffic in August.
