The Asset 3 Sep 2024

Citi bank’s Australia and New Zealand (ANZ) markets business has strengthened its team with seven appointments across markets sales, asset-backed securitization (ABS) and financing, G10 rates trading, corporate access, foreign exchange (FX) and equities electronic execution.

The raft of new hires follows strong performance from the markets team, which, the bank notes, is experiencing double digit year-on-year revenue growth.

Dan Birch joins Citi as its head of markets sales for New Zealand, with responsibility for driving client engagement in New Zealand, a key growth market for the bank. Birch has been appointed as a director and joins from Perennial Partners where he was the head of institutional sales.

Peter Hext, who recently started as the bank head of ABS and financing for ANZ, is also a director and has been with Citi for over 13 years, most recently as the head of commercial ABS in New York.

Ankit Khandelwal has joined the G10 rates trading team from Bank of America Merrill Lynch where he held several trading and risk roles.

Melanie Vandervord, who joins the access strategies team covering ANZ, brings over 20 years’ experience in corporate access from her time at Goldman Sachs and most recently as a corporate access specialist at MST Financial.

The bank has also expanded its corporate FX sales team with two appointments and added a new sales trader to the equities electronic execution team.

“The ANZ markets business is experiencing material growth, and these recent appointments will strengthen our ability to deliver increased value to our clients,” says Cristina Chang, Citi’s head of markets for ANZ. “We are investing in our capabilities to ensure we have the skills and experience needed to meet our clients’ complex needs in a dynamic market environment.”
