Fiber Media Indonesia taps ALE for network expansion
Shortest Path Bridging solution offers faster speed and increased security
The Asset 2 Sep 2024

Alcatel-Lucent Enterprise (ALE) has provided PT Fiber Media Indonesia (FMI), a telecommunications services provider in the Greater Jakarta area, with a new networking solution that delivers higher connection speed, higher access bandwidth for subscribers, and increased backbone connectivity.

Based on ALE OmniSwitch 6900C32E and 6900X24, the solution introduces Shortest Path Bridging (SPB) into the FMI network, which delivers traffic on the shortest path available and enables multiple active paths for more rapid convergence after a network problem.

The SPB is primarily focused on addressing the shortcomings of the ageing Spanning Tree Protocol (STP) used by FMI and on improving the network’s performance and reliability. SPB also ensures security by separating different types of traffic into “containers” to prevent unauthorized access.

“We were pleased to be able to collaborate with our partner PT Quinsis Lintas Mitra to showcase in a trial for FMI how our OmniSwitch solution with SPB could help them resolve the issues their network was facing and improve performance for their customers. SPB is significantly simpler to deploy and maintain than more traditional methods of moving network traffic and is a key differentiating feature of our solution,” says Novse Hardiman, ALE’s country manager in Indonesia.

“As our business grows, our aim is always to provide an efficient, reliable network that exceeds the expectations of our subscribers. ALE has demonstrated a strong commitment to our success by providing excellent assistance from both technology and business perspectives to help make our business expansion project a success,” adds FMI chief executive officer Budi Aditya.
