Bank of America has appointed Winnie Chen as its head of global payments solutions (GPS) business in the Asia-Pacific region, a roll in which she will drive the bank’s global payments strategy and execution for the region, deepen client relationships and work closely with partners in global corporate and investment banking.

Chen, who begins her role in September and will be based in Singapore, will also become a member of the bank’s Asia-Pacific executive committee.

She rejoins the bank, where she was previously the head of sales for financial institutions and the public sector for Hong Kong and Macau. Most recently she was head of treasury services for Asia-Pacific and Singapore chief executive at Bank of New York Mellon. As well, she has more than 20 years of financial services experience in various roles in the United States, Greater China and Singapore.

Mark Monaco, head of GPS, and Jin Su, president of Asia-Pacific, say: “Chen brings an international perspective and deep knowledge of credit administration, sales, relationship management and transaction banking.”

“Her appointment,” the bank adds in a statement, “comes at an important time for industry as well. The role of treasurer has evolved, and it is important for providers to consult with clients on how to manage through interest rate volatility, and how to protect their FX [foreign exchange] exposure while making large volumes of routine cross-border payments. A payments strategy goes beyond just adopting new payments innovations.”
