Qashier, a fintech start-up based in Singapore, has launched QashierPay Soundbox in Malaysia, a QR payment terminal designed to elevate the safety and security of digital payments.

The QashierPay Soundbox, equipped with real-time auditory alert capabilities, ensures merchants receive an immediate notification upon the successful and accurate receipt of payment.

The plug-and-play terminal enables businesses to accept QR payments at an affordable price. It is designed for merchants handling quick and high-flow transactions, such as hawkers and mini-marts.

According to a consumer fraud survey conducted by data analytics firm FICO, real-time payment scams are on the rise and payment fraud is now the top financial crime concern for 32% of Malaysians.

“With the rise of fraudulent activities in the payment space, the QashierPay Soundbox can help reduce the risk of unnoticed fraudulent activity, and also help [small and medium enterprises] overcome the cost and complexity so often associated with the adoption of digital payments, so that they can focus on growing their business,” says Travis Kok, senior vice-president, Southeast Asia, at Qashier.

Since piloting the Soundbox in May this year, Qashier has onboarded over 1,500 merchants mostly from the F&B and retail sector, and has processed close to 2 million ringgit (US$431,380) in transaction volume within two months.

As a plug-and-play solution, QashierPay Soundbox can be used without the need for merchants to overhaul their current payment system or change the way their business operates. It also accepts the majority of e-wallet QR payments and DuitNow-enabled apps, including TNG e-wallet, Shopee Pay, and BigPay.

The first 1,000 businesses to register between July 24 and August 31 can order QashierPay Soundbox at a promotional price of 199 ringgit, which comes with a SIM card and a free data plan for 12 months.
