Law firm Linklaters is expanding its Greater China corporate and capital markets practices with the addition of Christine Xu as partner and head of Greater China equity capital markets (ECM), Oliver Zhong initially as special senior adviser and new economy team leader for Greater China, and Queenie Tong and Samson Chan as counsels.

Xu is a prominent ECM practitioner, with a focus on issuers and underwriters in the new economy sectors, including technology, media, healthcare and life sciences, and consumer. She joins the firm from Clifford Chance where she was a partner.

Zhong has a formidable reputation in corporate finance and capital markets transactions, including Hong Kong- and US-registered initial public offerings and debt offerings under Rule 144A and Regulation S, with a focus on issuers in the healthcare, consumer, technology and real estate sectors. Prior to joining the firm, he was a partner with Sidley Austin.

The pair are joined by counsels Queenie and Samson, both ECM specialists from Clifford Chance.

These four hires, the firm notes, bring a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the new economy sector and complement the firm’s existing team led by ECM-focused partners Lipton Li and Donnelly Chan. The hires follow that of Roger Cheng, a merger and acquisition (M&A) and public takeovers expert, who joined the firm as a partner in August 2023, and they represent a significant increase to the firm’s partner bench strength in corporate M&A, ECM and capital markets offerings in Greater China.

“Their experience will complement our existing team,” adds Sophie Mathur, the firm’s Asia head of corporate, and will greatly enhance our support for corporate, financial institution and private equity clients in corporate and capital markets transactions, alongside complex M&A, takeovers and restructurings involving listed companies.”
