Hong Kong-based financial services firm VMS Group has appointed Man Wing Chung as chief investment officer.

Chung will lead the expansion of the group’s investment capabilities across strategies in its key markets, including China and other parts of Asia. He will also play a key role in formulating the group’s future investment directions and new product offerings, based on the overall macroeconomic landscape and clients’ asset allocation preferences.

He will also spearhead the establishment of VMS’s external asset manager sourcing, screening and monitoring system as it ramps up its efforts in building a multi-strategy, multi-manager ecosystem.

Chung has over 30 years of experience in asset management and financial services. Prior to joining VMS Group, he most recently served as an investment director at Value Partners.

During his tenure with Value Partners, he was the lead manager for the firm’s Asia ex-Japan equity and All-China equity strategies, and oversaw close to US$1 billion in assets under management for institutional and intermediary clients.

Before that, he was a portfolio manager at Ellis Brady Management (Hong Kong), a manager of alternative investments. Earlier, he co-founded JTM Capital Partners (Hong Kong) and managed a Greater China hedge fund.

He has also held other senior investment roles, including as head of Greater China team at Jardine Fleming Asset Management (Hong Kong), founder of HindSight Investment Management (HK), and CIO (Far East ex-Japan equities) at HSBC Asset Management (Hong Kong). He started his career at East Asia Hamon Asset Management (Hong Kong).
