Franklin Templeton has appointed Yu Qing as managing director and head of China. In her newly created role, Yu will be responsible for providing overall leadership and strategic direction for the firm’s mainland China business and building a multi-faceted asset management business, focusing on public investment solutions.

She will report to Ben Meng, executive vice-president and chairman of Asia-Pacific. Based initially in Beijing, Yu will also work from the firm’s Shanghai office.

Yu has over 30 years of industry experience, performing government and financial services roles in China. Prior to joining Franklin Templeton, she was most recently chairman of the board at Nomura Orient International Securities and managing director at Nomura Securities in China.

She previously served as group vice-president at China Reinsurance Group. She also had a long and distinguished career at the Ministry of Finance, People’s Republic of China. Yu holds a master's degree in economics from Peking University.

Franklin Templeton has a wholly foreign-owned enterprise (WFOE) in Shanghai, a representative office in Beijing, and as well as two long-established joint ventures – Franklin Templeton Sealand Fund Management in Shanghai and China Life Franklin Asset Management in Hong Kong.
