Standard Chartered appoints new chief information officer for 2020
Rene W. Keller will be CIO for corporate, commercial and institutional banking from January 1 2020
The Asset 2 Oct 2019

Standard Chartered has appointed Rene W. Keller as chief information officer (CIO), corporate, commercial and institutional banking (CCIB), from January 1 2020. Based in Singapore and reporting to Michael Gorriz, Group CIO, Keller will be responsible for the entire technology strategy, architecture and delivery value chain that will deliver outcomes for the CCIB business.

Keller was most recently group data officer and group head of innovation at Deutsche Bank, and before that, its global CIO for private, wealth and commercial clients. He has also previously held technology leadership roles at Deutsche Börse (Germany’s international exchange), Information Mosaic (a fintech focused on corporate actions and post trade securities processing), Swiss Life, and Credit Suisse as well as UBS.

Bhupendra Warathe, who is currently CIO, CCIB, will be taking on the newly created role of chief technology officer, cloud transformation. With cloud being one of the key pillars of the bank’s technology strategy to enable its businesses to be more scalable and efficient, Warathe’s experience in the technology and innovation (T&I) function and relationships across the organization help position him in this role to harness the power of cloud and drive adoption in the bank.

Since joining the bank in 2006, he has held various leadership roles including global head of countries and operations, information technology and operations, as well as global head of product engineering for banking products and global head of technology and operations for cash and trade. He will continue to report to Michael Gorriz, and continue to oversee CCIB T&I until January 2020 to ensure a smooth handover of responsibilities.
