Beijing Jingneng Clean Energy buys planned 31-turbine windfarm in Australia
Beijing Jingneng Clean Energy closes acquisition of the planned 100MW Biala Wind Farm in New South Wales
Michael Marray 15 Nov 2017

BEIJING Jingneng Clean Energy (BJCE) has closed the acquisition for the land and development rights for the proposed 31-turbine Biala wind farm in the Southern Tablelands region of New South Wales, Australia.

The wind farm will generate 100MW, and is being purchased from Newtricity Developments Biala Pty Ltd, which originally developed the project. A submission for a Development Approval was made in 2015, and approval was granted in April 2017.

BJCE Australia intends to begin construction of the wind farm in mid-2018, with electricity being generated in the second quarter of 2019. On an average day of wind, it will produce enough electricity for approximately 40,000 homes.

The Biala wind farm acquisition strengthens BJCE’s renewable energy portfolio in the area, which consists of a 75% interest in the 73-turbine Gullen Range wind farm, plus the 10MW Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) funded Gullen solar farm, which is now in the final stages of commissioning.

BJCE entered the Australian renewable energy market in 2014 and intends to grow a 1GW portfolio by the end of 2020. With an operating renewable energy portfolio of 3.3 GW in China BJCE is the leading supplier of wind power in China.
