AMP Capital builds Australian equities team with new appointments
AMP Capital appoints two portfolio managers and analyst to Australian equities team
The Asset 20 Dec 2017

AMP Capital has appointed two portfolio managers and an analyst to its Australian equities team as it continues to build the business.

AMP Capital repositioned its Australian equities business in October 2017 to focus on areas where there is long-term client demand and where AMP Capital will deliver active and cost-effective capabilities including equity income, small caps and systematic.

Jason Davis has been appointed co-portfolio manager, systematic, working alongside co-portfolio manager Genevieve Murray, who is also AMP Capital head of Australian equities. Davis has more than 25 years’ investment experience and an extensive background in Australian equities investing and systematic research techniques. He was most recently a director at Strategic Income and, prior to that, head of portfolio management and director at Ankura Capital. Based in Melbourne, Davis will join AMP Capital on February 5 2018.

Matthew Griffin will join AMP Capital on March 19 2018 as co-portfolio manager, small caps, working alongside co-portfolio manager Phillip Hudak in Sydney. Griffin was most recently at IFM Investors where he and his team were responsible for launching an Australian equities small caps strategy, and later became co-portfolio manager of a successful micro cap fund. Prior to that, Griffin worked at Macquarie Funds Group where he was an analyst on the small caps team.

In addition, Marco Correia has joined AMP Capital as an equity income analyst, working for co-portfolio managers, equity income, Tom Young and Dermot Ryan. Prior to AMP Capital, Correia worked at Rothschild & Co as an investment banking analyst and Ernst & Young as a senior analyst in the Valuations and Business Modelling division.

Murray says, “Our ability to attract such high-calibre investment professionals to the repositioned AMP Capital Australian equities team is testament to the potential of our long-term strategy and the exciting opportunities that are on the horizon. Two of the three Australian equities teams – small caps and equity income – are now fully resourced to deliver high-quality outcomes for our clients.

“I’m looking forward to a positive 2018 for the Australian equities team as we continue to execute on our strategy to focus on highly-differentiated and cost-effective solutions that are in line with what our clients want and how the market is evolving.”
