Mercer strengthens Korea leadership team
HyungKoo Lee named CEO, KyuMan Hwang as partner and representative director in the country
The Asset 8 Nov 2021

Human resources consulting firm Mercer has appointed HyungKoo (Hank) Lee as chief executive officer in Korea, and KyuMan (Kenneth) Hwang as partner, career business leader and representative director in the country, effective November 1.

Lee (pictured) will retain his roles as CEO for Marsh and country corporate officer for Marsh McLennan in Korea. In his expanded role, his responsibilities include driving continued, profitable growth and overseeing the expansion of Mercer’s business in the country.

In the first unified CEO role across Marsh and Mercer in Asia, Lee will also drive greater collaboration between the two businesses to provide greater value for clients through more holistic solutions that combine the insurance broking and risk advisory capabilities of Marsh with the consulting expertise of Mercer.

Lee joined Marsh in Korea in 1992, gaining experience in a variety of leadership roles in both Korea and the United States. In 2003, he was appointed managing director of Marsh and subsequently took on the role of CEO for Marsh Korea in 2018.

Based in Seoul, Lee will report directly to Renée McGowan, Mercer’s president for Asia, the Middle East and Africa, and Svein Tyldum, CEO of Marsh North Asia.

Hwang’s latest appointment recognizes his success as Mercer’s career products leader, a position he has held since 2015.

In his new role, Hwang will continue to drive growth for the career business, helping clients design and implement workforce strategies to effectively enhance employee experience, while finding opportunities to bring solutions across health, wealth, and career to Korean clients. Based in Seoul, Hwang will report to CEO Lee.

The latest appointments come on the heels of Mercer’s recent leadership announcements in Korea with the promotion of Jiwon Jang to Mercer’s multinational client services leader, as well as Jason Chun and Joosoo Kim to co-career services leaders. The Korea leadership team also sees Kwangmo Han, career digital leader, spearheading digital workforce transformation for clients.
