CMA CGM takes delivery of mega container ship from CSSC yard
LNG-powered Trocadero is 399.9 metres in length and has a maximum capacity of 23,000 TEUs
Michael Marray 2 Jun 2021

French container line CMA CGM Group has taken delivery of a mega dual-powered container ship built at the Jiangnan Shipyard in Shanghai. The CMA CGM Trocadero is the final delivery of nine 23,000 TEU vessels built by China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC).

The Trocadero measures 399.9 metres in length, and has a maximum capacity of 23,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEU).  It will operate between Asia and Europe.

The vessel is primarily powered by liquefied natural gas, which can cut carbon emissions by 20% compared to ships running on fuel oil.

Since the second half of 2020, the global shipping market has been positioning for rapid recovery and growth, according to CMA CGM.

In late April CMA CGM signed another large order for new ships with CSSC Group. It comprises six LNG-powered 13,000 TEU containerships, six 15,000 TEU LNG-powered containerships, and ten 5,500 TEU very low sulphur fuel oil-powered containerships. CMA CGM said the order aims at accommodating market growth. The vessels are expected to join the group’s fleet between 2023 and 2024.
