Malaysia’s Petronas launches clean energy firm
Gentari aims to deliver suite of renewable, hydrogen and green mobility solutions
The Asset 21 Jun 2022

Malaysia’s stated-owned oil and gas group Petronas has launched clean energy solutions company Gentari to deliver a suite of renewable energy, hydrogen and green mobility solutions and capture energy transition opportunities.

Some of the 2030 sustainability ambitions of the new company, according to Petronas, include building 30 to 40 gigawatts (GW) of solar energy capacity with added opportunities in wind and battery storage, supplying up to 1.2 million tons of hydrogen annually, and capturing a 10% electric vehicle ecosystem market share across key markets in the Asia-Pacific region.

The new company kicks off with several clean energy assets and projects, including a 1GW-peak of solar capacity in India and Malaysia, a pipeline of clean hydrogen projects under development in Malaysia and other markets, and over 220 electric vehicles under the Vehicle-as-a-Service model.

“Gentari will offer cleaner energy solutions to meet the energy needs and lower-carbon aspirations of Malaysia and its customers at home and abroad,” says Tengku Muhammad Taufik, Gentari’s chairman. “With a dedicated team focusing on the supply, distribution, and retail of cleaner energy, we aim to capture opportunities in the low-carbon energy space by providing affordable and accessible solutions and systems, and by enabling scale of production and infrastructure availability.”
