Credit Suisse continues integration of investment banking
The Asset 17 Sep 2019
Credit Suisse has merged its loan and bond syndicate teams in Asia – its latest effort to integrate its investment banking activity. Terence Chia will lead the combined unit to better leverage its debt capital markets franchise to provide an integrated client offering and further enhance its risk syndication capabilities.

In April, Credit Suisse announced the formation of Asia-Pacific trading solutions (ATS) aimed at enhancing the profitability of the Asia-Pacific division by accelerating the capture of wealth opportunities in the region, strengthening the intersection between Asia-Pacific markets and Asia-Pacific financing group (AFG) and increasing collaboration with its global markets division.

With the integration of AFG into the ATS business, Carsten Stoehr will fully dedicate his focus to his responsibilities as CEO for Greater China and continue to drive Credit Suisse’s strategic development of its Greater China franchise, which represents one of the fastest-growing regions in Asia-Pacific.

ATS head Yves-Alain Sommerhalder will also oversee Asia-Pacific markets and AFG activities going forward as part of Credit Suisse’s integrated approach to serving clients in the region, combining private banking, investment banking and capital markets, financing and markets capabilities, which has proven to be a strong source of growth over the past three years and is expected to continue going forward.

Lewis Wong and Riddhi Shah have been appointed co-heads of AFG, with Wong taking the lead for AFG structuring, while Shah heads the AFG trading and real asset lending activities. Both Wong and Shah will report regionally to Sommerhalder.

Over at HSBC, Greater China chief executive Helen Wong left as reported in early August, the second senior departure from the bank during the week after the ousting of group CEO John Flint. Wong joined HSBC in 1992 and rose to become its China CEO before being appointed to the newly-created role of Greater China chief executive in 2015.
