The Asset Events kicked off its 10th Philippine Forum on Wednesday, (October 6) in conjunction with the launch of The Asset Asean Capital Markets and Investment Summit, a one-day strategic event held at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

Organised in partnership with the Fund Managers Association of the Philippines (FMAP), the one-day strategic event which will bring together the key issuers, investors, regulators and financial institutions across Asean to discuss issues, challenges and opportunities to promote Asean as an asset class.

Some of the key speakers at this year's event include Nestor Espenilla, deputy governor of Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas and Teresita Herbosa, chairperson at the Securities & Exchange Commission. The summit will highlight the significance of Asean integration and steps towards bringing down barriers preventing the free flow of goods, services, investments, skilled labour and capital.

Amid global market turbulence and slower economic growth, Asean remains a long-term investment proposition. Foreign direct investments from Europe, Japan, the US and China are positively impacting Asean economies, while intra-Asean funding and investment activity is also on the rise.

On the back of the launch of Asean Economic Community (AEC) on December 2015, Southeast Asia has launched several Asean-centric initiatives, which will increase market connectivity, deepen capital markets and solidify the status of Asean as a compelling asset class.

Underpinning the success of AEC is financial integration. It will be an important enabler allowing companies to be able to tap the region’s capital markets; banks to be able to offer better products and services; and institutional investors to be able to recycle excess savings within Asean for the benefit of its 600 million citizens.
