HSBC on August 13 announced the appointment of Michael Bevan as head of financial sponsors group (FSG) for Asia-Pacific. He will also continue in his role as head of sovereign wealth and public pension funds for the region.
Bevan joined HSBC in 1999 and has held various positions within the bank, including several years in mergers and acquisitions based in London. Before his move to Asia-Pacific, he headed the equity capital markets (ECM) for the Middle East and Africa
A memo seen by The Asset says Bevan’s success in building and maintaining HSBC’s ECM franchise in the Middle East and then his subsequent success in deepening the bank's relationships with the Asia Pacific-based sovereign wealth funds (SWF), which has resulted in their support in a number of high profile HSBC-led transactions, positions him well to support the further build-out of its FSG franchise in Asia-Pacific.
Based in Hong Kong, Bevan will report locally to Martin Haythorne and Che Ning Liu, co-head of banking in Asia-Pacific, and functionally to Gilles Collombin, global head of FSG, SWF and institutional private clients.
