Manulife Asset Management has named Megan E. Greene as managing director and chief economist. She is responsible for forecasting global macroeconomic and financial trends and analyzing the potential opportunities and impacts to support the firm's investment teams around the world.

She will be based in Manulife Asset Management's Boston office, as a member of the portfolio solutions group (PSG), which specializes in global asset allocation portfolio management. PSG manages more than US$118 billion in assets and consists of more than 25 experienced investment managers around the globe as of June 30 2014. She reports to Robert Boyda, senior managing director and co-head of global asset allocation.

For the past several years, Ms. Greene ran her own London-based economics consulting practice, Maverick Intelligence, serving clients who leveraged her analysis of economic, political, policy and social developments and the impact these were likely to have on the global economy.

Previously, she was director of European economics at Roubini Global Economics, where she conducted macroeconomic analysis and forecasting, with a focus on the Eurozone, and provided real-time analysis on global developments and how they would impact political and macroeconomic forecasts and financial systems. Prior to this, she was editor/economist, Western Europe, at Economist Intelligence Unit, responsible for economic forecasts and models for a wide range of countries.

Greene holds an M.Sc. in European politics from Oxford University, Nuffield College, and a bachelor's degree with honours in political economy from Princeton University.
